Wild Food Summit IV

Grab Your Knife & Tent! Collect foods and prepare them over fire or in a pit. Learn medicinal and utilitarian uses of plants. Learn how to identify and prepare wild foods with these Wild Food Enthusiasts: Tom Peterson Steve Dahlberg; Matt Mattson Francois Medion; Sunny Savage Rebecca Dallinger; and Stephanie Williams. Join us for this hands-on experience in the Hunter/gatherer lifestyle: a little work, lots of play. While attending you will collect the food you eat - rumbling tummies may promote faster learning.

⊗ June 17 Camp day. Arrive and set up your camp. Pot luck Dinner and workshop introduction at 6p.m, followed by a campfire social.
⊗ June 18 & 19 Full day of teaching, gathering and sharing wild foods.
⊗ June 20 Breakfast and lunch will be learning experiences. In the afternoon we wrap up with cleaning and evaluations.

The Rediscovery Center features primitive camping. Please bring your own DRINKING WATER; we have tent sites and port-a-potties. RVs are welcome, but there is NO electricity or running water. Everyone will police their own areas and clean up after shared events.

What to bring: A gathering bag, DRINKING WATER, good knife, dishes and utensils, towels swimsuit, folding chair, toilet paper, lantern, notebook & pencil, tent, bedrolls, jacket & rain gear. No alcohol or drugs are allowed.

Where is the Rediscovery Center? 29401 400th Street – Waubun, MN
From south: 5 miles north of White Earth, then east 2 1⁄2 miles
From north: East from Waubun to County 13, south 5 miles and east 2 1⁄2 miles.

‘Homegrown’ Movie Premiere

Homegrown is the inspiring true story of a family “living off the grid” in the heart of urban Pasadena, California. They harvest over 6,000 pounds of produce on less than a quarter of an acre. PRI-Cold Climate will sponsor multiple showings of this movie during Saturday, June 20th at the Minnesota College of Art and Design (MCAD) Auditorium. Grazefest Minnesota 2009 at Mill City Market Highlights:

• Meet Minnesota Farmers growing pasture-raised foods
• Learn from Minnesota Chefs preparing delectable dishes using locally grown, pasture-raised foods
• Sample delicious, locally-grown, pasture-raised fare
• Learn about the benefits of pastured egg, pork, dairy, beef, goat, and sheep production
• Farmers who graze are invited to “test drive” meeting customers and marketing products
• Bus Tour to grass-based farms producing pasture-raised foods

8:00 am Mill City Market Opens with a full array of vendors PLUS pasture-raised foods, samples, farmers, music, information on pasture-raised production, and the Sustainable Farming Association’s Meet the Farmers Booth

10:00 am -12:30 pm Four Pasture-raised Cooking Demos featuring Four of the Twin Cities’ Best Chefs pair up with Four Farmers who produce pasture-raised foods

1:00 pm-5:00 pm Farm Tours leave by bus from the Mill City Farmers Market and return at 5 pm

Feature and sell your products, offer samples, talk with food citizens, distribute educational materials, connect with chefs and customers. Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-serve basis. No electricity is available. *You must be a current member of the Sustainable Farming Association of Minnesota to be eligible for this offer. Pre-registration is required by June 1st.
