Description

Pasture, tillable land, and winter livestock plus housing available at Nettle Valley Farm

We’re Dayna and Nick of Nettle Valley Farm. NVF is a 90 acre diversified farm in Spring Grove, MN that currently is home to certified organic seed production, seasonal brush management goats, and a mobile sauna business.

We’ve assessed the land needs for our own enterprises over the next 3-5 years and it looks like we’ve got extra open pasture and silvopasture that could be a great fit for someone with sheep or cattle. Some tillable land could be rented as well but this is primarily an opportunity for ruminants.

Housing: we have a very nice 30′ tiny house plus space in a storage shed for rent as well ($500/month plus utilities except internet, that’s included)

Winter livestock housing: three sided shed with heated waterers available in the winter for the cost of the electricity to run the waterers.

Fence/water: Mobile fencing and watering strategies required. We use Nofence for our goats and there’s enough cell service in most of the valley to make that a good fit for sheep and cattle.

Biosecurity plan required

Equipment for hire: Love round bales but don’t have a tractor? Need a livestock trailer and truck a couple times a year for hauling to the processor? Need a garden tilled? We can help with lots of those projects if they’re quick or you can hire us to operate our equipment for you at a reasonable hourly rate.

Pasture rental rates will be in line with county averages. Tillable acreage is $300/acre per year. Year to year leases at the beginning with longer term opportunities available if it’s a good fit.

Timing: lease could start as early as this fall.

We’re big on detailed written agreements, co-created check in schedules and conflict resolution processes, acknowledging power dynamics upfront, and hashing things out before they become problems. (We’re an Ennegram 8 and 3 couple, if that helps) 🙂

Ideal candidates will be excited to adapt grazing techniques to match biodiversity goals in various areas of the farm, direct communicators and farmers with a decent amount of regenerative farming experience under their belts.

Email nettlevalleyfarm@gmail.com with a description of your experience and interest. Bonus points for sharing your Enneagram type! If it seems like this could be a good fit for everyone, we’ll ask for references and invite you for a visit to talk more details in person and give you a tour.

Thanks for considering!
