SFA is currently comprised of ten geographic chapters throughout Minnesota and into the adjoining states, though not all areas are within a particular chapter's region. Members may choose to join a chapter based on their individual preferences, but it is not required for SFA membership. Chapters have representation on the SFA board of directors.

SFA also has the capacity to form networking groups that are based on particular interests and are not necessarily related to a geographical area. Networking groups do not have representation on the SFA board of directors.

Members may join a chapter and one or more networking groups if they so choose.
