Let’s experience homesteading in action!
A tour of Alternative Roots Farm will feature their perennial fruit plantings, homestead garden and a passive solar greenhouse. We’ll touch on succession planting, preserving the harvest, direct-to-consumer sales, managing an on-farm store & the role of livestock on the farm. Alternative Roots Farm is a Certified Organic farm producing apples and other perennial fruits, winter greens, cottage food items, pasture pigs and more, since 2011.
Brooke Knisley has owned Alternative Roots Farm, with her husband John, for 14 years. She is passionate about good, clean food, preserving the harvest and stocking the larder, herbalism, camping, canoeing and being outside.
This event is part of SFA’s 2025 Homesteading Series. Check out the Minnesota River Chapter’s webpage for more upcoming homesteading events.
