Join us for a free, guided pasture walk at Flanagan Farms: a 398-acre multi-unit operation focused on long-term soil health and profitability through strategic grazing and cropping. Attendees will get an in-depth look at how the Flanagans manage their home quarter using an 8-year crop and forage rotation that builds organic matter and improves gross margins per acre.

We’ll explore:

  • Their full 8-year crop/graze rotation, including bale grazing, cover crops, interseeded corn, soybeans, barley, and perennial forages
  • How they’ve improved soil organic matter from under 2% to over 5%
  • Seasonal stocking rates from summer through winter
  • Their approach to enterprise-level decision making, including cost tracking and gross margin goals
  • Favorite forage species, cattle types, and management tools used to support long-term success.

Whether you’re interested in rotational grazing, improving soil health, or boosting your bottom line, this walk will offer practical insight from a real-world operation!

Target audience: Graziers, crop-livestock integrators, land managers, and anyone interested in regenerative land stewardship.

Registration: It is free to attend. Advance registration requested, walkups welcome.

From April through October, SFA will host a free pasture walk every fourth Thursday night of the month. Locations and topics will vary — stay tuned to our event calendar for more information and registration.

SFA staff and volunteers occasionally take photos during our workshops, cafe chats and field days for promotional purposes and to use as documentation of events to share with our funders.  If you do not wish to be photographed, please let our event host know — we’ll make every effort to make sure you are not photographed.
