Explore how the Forbords prepare their operation for winter with strategies like stockpiling, bale grazing, and wintering their livestock. With over 20 years of experience in grass-fed beef genetic selection and direct marketing, they have a wealth of knowledge to share. Plus, discover how they use goats to enhance pasture quality—and have a little fun along the way!
Topics to be covered:
- Genetic selection for grass-fed beef
- Bull selection
- Direct marketing grass-fed beef
- Stockpiling perennials and bale grazing
- Pasture management
- and as always, much more!
About the farm: MJ served as SFA’s first executive director, and is pleased to welcome us back to the farm for our pasture-walk season wrap up. She and Luverne are 5th generation Minnesota farmers producing delicious and healthy grass fed beef, orchard fruits, nuts and vegetables in a nontoxic, regenerative system that fosters life, health, diversity and community. They steward 480 acres of original and restored native prairie, sequestering carbon, raising healthy animals and deep-rooted perennial plants, and keeping water clean.
The Forbords’ land has been certified organic since 2006, and is home to about 100 cattle, 30 goats, a feisty farm dog and abundant wildlife.
Don’t miss this opportunity to learn from seasoned grazers and enjoy an afternoon on the farm.
