Alison and Joshua Stamper own and operate Yker Acres, a pasture based farrow to finish, heritage breed farm in Carlton, MN.
Joshua has a BS in Agriculture from Berea College in Berea, Kentucky, and MS in Agronomy. Alison did not grow up on a farm, but she can tell you all about what it takes to raise happy hogs in northern Minnesota. The Stampers farrow to finish about 350-400 pigs per year, and will discuss all the basics of managing weaned pigs outside on pasture.
Special focus will be placed on animal selection and herd health, the art and science of cozy patrol, how to train pigs on polywire fences, working with a veterinarian and feed mill, economics of raising pasture critters, and how pigs can be part of a crop rotation.
We will provide Hot dogs and brats, and you bring a side to share.
