Job Summary
The Boreal Farm is seeking an experienced Farm Manager to lead diversified vegetable production and daily farm operations in Northeastern Minnesota. This is a year-round leadership role responsible for overseeing crop production from propagation through harvest, managing high tunnel and irrigation systems, operating equipment, and helping build durable production systems that support long-term farm stability.
This position plays a central role in ensuring consistent, high-quality production for CSA and farmstand, while supporting season extension through high tunnels and solar-powered root cellar storage.

This role is best suited for an experienced Zone 3–4 grower who approaches farming as a profession and takes pride in building systems that strengthen over time.

Key Responsibilities
Crop Production & Field Operations
Lead diversified vegetable production from seed starting through harvest
Manage propagation, transplanting, cultivation, irrigation, fertility, and harvest workflows
Oversee high tunnel production and seasonal transitions

Infrastructure & Equipment
Build, maintain, and improve irrigation systems and production infrastructure
Assist with installation and expansion of high tunnels
Operate and maintain tractors, implements, and farm equipment
Monitor and maintain small-scale solar power systems
Manage solar-powered root cellar storage to support season extension

Staff Leadership & Coordination
Lead and train small seasonal crew
Maintain organized, efficient production workflows
Communicate regularly with Founder regarding operations and planning
Sales & Operational Support
Support CSA and farmstand fulfillment through reliable harvest readiness
Assist with inventory organization and product preparation

Required Qualifications
Direct growing experience in USDA Zones 3–4 or comparable cold climates
Experience managing high tunnel and propagation systems
Experience operating tractors and farm equipment safely
Experience building or maintaining irrigation systems
Strong communication and leadership skills
Ability to lift 50 pounds regularly
Ability to work safely outdoors in northern weather conditions throughout the year
Valid driver’s license with safe driving record

Preferred Qualifications
Experience with certified organic production
Experience managing seasonal crews
Experience with infrastructure development and system-building
Familiarity with solar-powered or renewable-energy farm systems

Compensation & Benefits
$52,000–56,000 annual salary, commensurate with experience
$300/month healthcare stipend
